While Germany is introducing restrictions on cross-border traffic between the Czech Republic and the state of Saxony and requiring regular corona tests, commuters continue to travel across the Austrian border without restrictions. “There are currently no changes to the entry regulations planned,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health on Sunday afternoon on APA request. However, the regulation is constantly being updated, so changes cannot be ruled out.

For commuters and people who travel to Austria at least once a month for family purposes or to visit their partner, the ten-day quarantine obligation, which can be ended earlier with a negative PCR or antigen test, does not apply. There is a special regulation for the 24-hour supervisors, diplomats and medical escorts: They should present a negative PCR or antigen test upon arrival that was tested no more than 72 hours ago.
Commuters and cross-border commuters between Germany and the Czech Republic, on the other hand, have to be tested for the corona virus at least twice a week from January 11th. The Czech Foreign Minister TomáÅ¡ PetÅ ™ íÄ ek and Saxony's Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping announced in a joint statement, as the broadcaster MDR Sachsen recently reported. As soon as the infection situation arises, this rule will be relaxed again in close mutual coordination.
Saxony is the German state that is currently most affected by the corona crisis. According to the Robert Koch Institute as the highest epidemiological authority in Germany, the seven-day incidence in Saxony is 329.7, while in Germany it is 139.6 in total. Germany is now planning to extend the lockdown beyond January 10th.
The Czech Republic has also been in its third lockdown since December 26th. At the end of the year, the number of new infections in the 10.7 million inhabitant country had risen again to over 10,000 per day, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants climbed to 634 in the past seven days. 11,960 people in the Czech Republic have died from or with the coronavirus .
