A Ukrainian diplomat was injured during the attack.

In the city of Mandra, Greece, during a ceremony to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor, a group of people with red flags attacked Ukrainians. The incident took place near the monument to Taras Shevchenko.

This was reported by the priest of the Ukrainian Church Community of St. Nicholas of the UGCC in Greece Igor Posolenik on Facebook.

“On Saturday, during a peaceful event dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine, a group of aggressive individuals under communist flags and slogans attacked Ukrainians, a significant number of whom were women and children from Ukrainian schools and associations. The incident occurred at the monument to Taras Shevchenko, where Ukrainians gathered to hold an authorized event with a prayer for the victims of the Holodomor,” he wrote.

The priest reported that the attackers with communist symbols blocked access to the monument and resorted to aggressive actions, including insults and threats. A Ukrainian diplomat was injured in the attack.

The footage released shows the participants in the clash detonating noise bags several times, while the police tried to prevent a mass brawl.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Greece expressed “a strong protest against the violent and provocative actions” of representatives of the KKE, which is an abbreviation for the local communist party. The diplomatic statement also reported that a Ukrainian diplomat was injured in the attack.

“We call on Greek law enforcement agencies to promptly investigate this incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. It is necessary to protect the rights of people and communities to remember historical tragedies without fear of intimidation or violence,” the embassy statement said.

Recall that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has made public thousands of criminal cases on the Holodomor. The electronic map already contains photocopies of more than a thousand archival files, as well as data on the same number of documents that were destroyed in 1956.
