Collides with opponent: Fall costs Danes a world record

Fredrik Madsen

Denmark's track cycling team lost its world record and Olympic gold after a serious fall. There was a crash with a Briton.

The Danes were on course for a world record in their run-up when the clash broke out. A British driver had to be pulled down and rolled out on the track at low speed.

Fredrik Madsen, who led the three Danes, had overlooked that and had lowered his head to the floor. And had bumped into the British. Both went down at high speed.

Madsen hadn't been able to continue the race. The Danes were then no longer three and could not finish their race in accordance with the rules. It is not yet known how the pursuit race will be scored after the spectacular fall.
