“Coffin” for Putin: How the destruction of the Iranian regime will affect the war in Ukraine

According to the Israeli military, the collapse of oil prices after the destruction of the Iranian regime will deprive Russia of money to continue the war.

Flags of Iran and Russia

Lifting sanctions on Iran and resuming normal relations with Israel would result in the country “flooding the world with its oil,” which would cause commodity prices to collapse. This would be an economic collapse for Russia and would deprive the Kremlin of the ability to continue its war against Ukraine.

This opinion was expressed by the reserve officer of the Israeli Defense Forces, Grigory Tamar, in a commentary to Kyiv 24.

“This [the destruction of the Iranian regime – ed.] could open the coffin box for the Putin regime,” Tamar said.

Israel's Strategic Goal and Historical Context of Relations with Iran

Grigori Tamar stressed that Israel's strategic goal is to “destroy the criminal fascist regime and fascist fanatics” in Iran. He recalled that before the Islamic Revolution, Israel and Iran had “excellent, excellent relations.”

According to the officer, there is even a plot of land in Tel Aviv that was purchased by the deposed Shah of Iran to build an embassy, and cooperation between the countries covered defense, agriculture, science, sports and culture. Tamar emphasized that the last Shah was a close friend of the mayor of Jerusalem, and this is the kind of relationship that Israel is seeking to restore after the political changes in Iran.

Parallels of regimes and consequences of change of power in Iran

The officer believes that the parallels between the “Iranian and Moscow regimes” are obvious, because the leaders of these countries are “tyrants who drink the blood of the people and sit in bunkers.” He noted that if the regime in Iran changes, the West will unfreeze the state’s colossal assets and lift sanctions, and then “Iran will flood the entire world with oil.”

Grigory Tamar explained that this would lead to a collapse in oil prices, leaving “the criminal Moscow regime without the means to continue its aggressive war.” Thus, he said, “for the Kremlin, the collapse of the Iranian regime would be a catastrophe.”

Let us recall that Iran has long been a particularly useful “strategic partner” for Russia. But now the Kremlin is losing Tehran as an ally, although it has some benefit from the war in the Middle East.
