Prosecutors have upheld a life sentence for a man who brutally murdered a 57-year-old sauna administrator seven years ago. Before the massacre, he raped his victim in an unnatural way.
In the spring of 2021, the court sentenced the man to 15 years in prison, but the sentence was changed to life.
Mocked, beaten and strangled
A terrible incident occurred on November 26, 2015 in Zaporozhye. The suspect (then 38-year-old) decided to spend the evening in a sauna located on Cathedral Avenue.
At the entrance he was met by a 57-year-old sauna worker. Being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, the man decided to “take care” of her, but was refused.
– The defendant attacked the administrator of the institution, overcame his resistance by force and, against the will of the woman, satisfied his sexual passion. He struck blows on the head, torso, arms and legs, the report says.
After intercourse, the 38-year-old attacker squeezed the woman's neck and literally watched her die.
Alarm and consequence
On the same evening, a detachment of police officers arrived at the sauna and responded to the alarm. Inside, they found the bloodied body of a 57-year-old woman.
In a matter of minutes, the dog handler, along with the dog, found the attacker himself: he was too drunk to hide from the scene of the murder, so he disappeared into the next room.
The main evidence of the man's involvement was video from surveillance cameras. At the same time, at the trial, the attacker did not want to fully admit his guilt until the very end.
Initially, criminal proceedings were opened only under Article 115 (Deliberate murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. During the pre-trial investigation and a number of examinations, the legal qualifications changed.
After more than seven years of consideration, the court found the man guilty under Part 3 of Art. 153, paragraph 10, part 2, art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. We are talking about b murder and satisfaction of sexual passion in an unnatural way.
In addition, material and moral damages in the amount of more than 387 thousand hryvnias were recovered from him. The brutal rapist will spend the rest of his life in prison.
