The high-level meeting was also attended by the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, and a representative of the Border Agency.
“Hundreds of thousands of Russian citizens who fought against an independent European country. We must take a very clear position that these people cannot travel freely within Schengen – we will not grant them residence permits, we will not grant them visas, because this entire group that killed and destroyed there poses a very serious security threat to all of us,” said Estonian Interior Minister Igor Taro, emphasizing the importance.
It is noted that the ban on entry into the Schengen zone for persons involved in aggression should remain in force even after the end of active hostilities.
Let us recall that back in 2023, Romania and Bulgaria reached an agreement to join the Schengen area with open borders by air and sea. Therefore, the process took place in March 2024.
