The results of a fresh study of scientists from two countries at once – the USA and Germany – appeared on the network. They found that the melting of glaciers (that is, climate change) and the distribution of weight around the planet changed its axis.
According to experts, the shift happened back in the 90s of the last century. At the same time, they noted that the location of the North and South Poles is not at all static, writes Phys.org. And the melted glaciers redistributed the water in such a way that the planetary axis was shifted.
Note that earlier researchers were also able to determine the causes of polar drifts. This was made possible thanks to data from a joint project between NASA and the German Aerospace Center (GRACE). They worked together to restore gravity and study the climate.
