Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen hit back in the second free practice session for the British Grand Prix on Saturday morning and was clearly the fastest.
The Dutchman, who had to be content with second place in yesterday's qualifying for the premiere of the sprint race on Saturday (5.30 p.m.), clearly set the fastest lap of the session with 1: 29: 302, leaving the two Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc (+0.375) and Carlos Sainz (+0.605) far behind.
In addition, the Dutchman looked very strong in the long run on the medium tires. It is quite possible that the world championship leader will tackle the sprint race with the tires marked in yellow. It is at least a pointer in the direction of the Grand Prix on Sunday.
Mercedes kept a low profile in the second training session. Lewis Hamilton came in eighth (+1.229), just ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas (+1.278). The “Silver Arrows”, however, paid much more attention to the hard tires.
The training is hardly meaningful, however, as it took place under parc ferme rules. All teams had limited themselves to tire tests. Some already tried long runs for Sunday, others tried to simulate the sprint race. The meaningfulness was therefore hardly given.
