While Rapid celebrates their 13th home win against Ried in a row, Austria striker Djuricin prevents Graz from winning.
Red Bull Salzburg did not give up a point in the 5th round of the Bundesliga at the weekend. After the 3-1 win against Austria Klagenfurt on Saturday, the defending champion is already leading the table by five points. Second is Sturm Graz after a 2-2 draw against Austria Wien on Sunday. The violets rank after the third draw and still without a win at the bottom of the table. Rapid, on the other hand, made it into third place thanks to a 3-0 win against SV Ried.
Because Altach (0-0 at WSG Tirol on Saturday) and LASK, who parted ways with Hartberg 1-1 on Sunday and thus remained unsuccessful in the third home game, gave up points and are fourth and sixth. The Rieder are fifth. On Saturday, the WAC celebrated their first win of the season with a 3-0 win against Admira.

Actually, every series has to come to an end. That of Ried at Rapid, however, seems endless: Even the 42nd trip to Vienna did not bring a Bundesliga victory. On the contrary, while the Hütteldorfer still needed a late stroke of genius from Yusuf Demir in the spring to win 1-0, the 3-0 was a clear affair – and the fourth 3-0 home win in August.
14,400 fans cheered the 13th home win in a row against Ried – and remembered Rudolf Edlinger. The honorary president, who died at the age of 81, was bid farewell with speeches, banners and one-minute long applause (as a new form of mourning minute).
Ried closes
After just 49 seconds, Ried goalie Samuel Sahin-Radlinger had to stretch for the first time. A strong Kara header from 16 meters was to be parried. The game of the Hütteldorfer did not work out on the fine grass in the seventh home game, especially because Robert Ljubicic made many mistakes in his first league appearance. And when Ried seemed to have overcome the five-man chain, Christoph Knasmüllner stumbled.
The defensive guests were harmless, but very adept at stealing precious seconds from every single interruption.
After a briefly cleared Rapid Corner, there was still some cheers. The ball came back to the middle, Ljubicic extended with a head and Marco Grüll showed his class. The ex-Rieder met with a side puller – and waived the cheers for his fifth goal (41st).
Before the break, Ercan Kara gave the preliminary decision, then Thorsten Schick. After 58 minutes, Ried had the first chance – it was a double. Richard Strebinger parried against Philipp Pomer and Nikola Stosic. The goalie injured his shoulder, Paul Gartler had to go into the box.
Traumtor decides
Ried became more offensive – and conceded the 0-2. Taxi Fountas had fought for the ball 30 meters from their own goal. The Joker played the counterattack with Kelvin Arase and crossed exactly. The dream goal was finalized by Ercan Kara's side puller (72nd).
After Kara was blocked in the 81st minute, Robert Ljubicic came from the back area. His precise long-range shot brought it 3-0.
Rapid climbs to third place. There are still two key games waiting before the international break: On Thursday, Luhansk will be about to convert the 3-0 lead into the Europa League. And on Sunday there will be the Vienna Derby at Austria.

The VAR was the focus of this game, he had his hands full from the start. First he recognized a goal from Demaku from Austria. At first it was believed that Djuricin was offside, but the real reason for the cancellation was a foul by Demaku earlier in midfield.
A little later, referee Gishamer gave Fischer a free kick after fouling Fischer, the VAR corrected him on a penalty, which Djuricin converted to 1-0 for the Viennese (19th). The game remained entertaining and disheveled, Sturm reacted to the deficit and became more active. A chance from Affengruber after a corner kick defused Pichler on the line.

Four minutes later, the Graz team turned the game around because the Austrians revealed defensive weaknesses. Suttner and Demaku let Yeboah go, who pushed the ball into the far corner to make it 2-1. Austria gradually caught up and dared to go on the offensive again. After an attack via Suttner, the ball landed at Djuricin, who hit the Kreuzeck 2-2 from 20 meters (69th). The afternoon of the dream goals had not yet been decided, both teams were looking for victory, but had to be satisfied with the draw.

The LASK just won't get going this year. The Linz team knew how to please against Hartberg for a long time, the first home win was in the air. Until they made life unnecessarily difficult for themselves.
