Churchill's painting sold for $ 1.8 million in New York
The painting, by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, was auctioned in New York for about $ 1.8 million, according to the Phillips auction house.
According to experts, the painting measuring 76 by 63.3 cm was painted in oil in the summer of 1921. It depicts a forest and a moat near a small English town. Previously, the painting belonged to the Greek businessman Aristotle Onassis (1906-1975).
The estimated cost of the lot was $ 1.5-2 million.
In March, Christie's in London sold another painting of Churchill for $ 11.6 million, which was put up for sale by the American actress Angelina Jolie.
Note that Churchill became interested in painting at the age of over 40 and managed to create about 540 paintings. Most of the works are in private collections or belong to his descendants.
