Chrome performance with ad blockers compared to pure ad blockers

Expert of the portal vc.ru Evgeny Delyukin shared the results of studies by foreign scientists on the speed of the famous Google browser. The results confirm the overall slowdown in Chrome.

Researchers examined the 15 most downloaded browser ad blockers. The average website load time without these add-ons is 17.5 seconds. At the same time, even the simplest blocker can help reduce the download time to 7.4 seconds.

It also turned out that one browser extension installed can increase the website loading speed by up to 400 milliseconds. Evernote Web Clipper, Dark Reader, Avira, Ubersuggest, Subsitutions are named the most “heavy” extensions. In addition to them, there are AdGuard AdBlocker, AdBlock, Ghostery, which are not only one of the most “heavy” extensions, but also negatively affect the download speed. In general, the rule applies: the more extensions in general, the longer the page is loaded.

Ad blockers generally make browsers slower. At the same time, according to the authors of the study, they provide efficient work with multiple pages. Also, thanks to blockers, the site loads faster.

However, extensions can help reduce memory consumption.
