During the study, experts screened potential drugs. Frontiers in Pharmacology writes that two independent laboratories have tested fenofibrate and fenofibric acid on cultured Vero cells. Previously, they infected them with two different isolates of the coronavirus.
As a result, in both cases, the drugs reduced viral infection by up to 70%, but only when using clinically significant concentrations. Since the drug is currently successfully acting as a means to combat high levels of cholesterol and lipids in the blood, scientists want to test it as a potential therapeutic agent for coronavirus.
