China may release a graphite bomb / Collage 24 Channel China is believed to be building a bomb that can disrupt enemy command and control systems. The weapon, when used, causes massive power outages over an area of over 10,000 square meters. This was reported by Channel 24 with reference to the South China Morning Post. China's state broadcaster CCTV has released an animated video showing a graphite bomb capable of completely cutting off power to a vast area. The weapon could be launched from a ground vehicle and followed by 90 cylindrical submunitions. They scatter through the air. Once detonated, the weapon releases chemically treated carbon filaments that could short-circuit high-voltage power infrastructure. The TV presenter did not give any details about the bomb in the animation. She said it was a “mysterious type of domestically produced missile,” but it was unclear what stage of development it was at or whether the Chinese military had any. The characteristics of the new bomb are very similar to existing graphite munitions. Such a weapon has a warhead weighing 490 kilograms and can shoot a distance of 290 kilometers. The bomb consists of a metal container filled with spools of graphite fiber and an explosive device. This weapon can probably hit military substations and other electrical infrastructure. Interestingly , back in 2017, South Korea was talking about its intentions to make such a weapon. The US also has such bombs in its arsenal. There are also known cases of graphite bombs being used in combat. They were used to hit infrastructure during the war in Iraq, knocking out about 85% of the power plants there. NATO used bombs against targets in Serbia in May 1999, damaging about 70% of the power supply there. By the way, Chinese inventors do not stand still and produce new equipment. So recently, the country presented miniature robots the size of a fly or a mosquito. Such UAVs are intended for use in military and civilian purposes – for information reconnaissance, special missions, medical sciences and environmental monitoring.
