Chinese supercomputers stopped receiving chips due to US sanctions

by alex

The US recently added new Chinese businesses to its blacklist. Because of this, Taiwan's TSMC has suspended orders for new chips for one of these supercomputer firms.

This is Phytium Information Technology Co. It is one of seven Chinese supercomputer companies added to the US blacklist. TSMC, however, promised to fulfill all orders received from Phytium Information Technology Co, prior to the imposition of sanctions.

A TSMC spokesman did not comment on the situation, but said the company will comply with all laws and regulations and will act in accordance with export restrictions.

It is worth noting that although China is investing heavily in the development of its semiconductor industry, it still relies on foreign technology and chips. China's supercomputers use processors made by Intel, AMD and IBM. Experts believe that the sanctions will definitely affect China's ability to maintain a leading position in the field of supercomputers.
