Chinese spacecraft “Tianwen-1” successfully landed on Mars
China's Tianwen 1 spacecraft has successfully landed on the surface of Mars. As expected, the first data on the exploration of the planet will be able to transmit the Mars rover “Chzhuzhong” already this year. Its planned period of operation is 90 Martian days, MIR 24 reports.
It is noted that this is the first time that a Chinese spacecraft has landed on another planet. The lander touched the surface early in the morning Beijing time. In Moscow at that moment it was two o'clock in the morning. The landing site is the southern part of the Utopia Plain in the northern hemisphere of the Red Planet. It is assumed that it was there that groundwater could come to the surface.
The landing took place in automatic mode. Due to the long distance between Mars and Earth, the signal delay is about 17 minutes, so the mission command had to wait more than an hour for the machine to transmit a signal of a successful operation.
We will remind, the automatic interplanetary station “Tianwen-1” was launched on July 23, 2020 from the Wenchang cosmodrome, located in the Hainan province. The Zhuzhong rover is equipped with a high-resolution topographic camera for 3D imaging of the planet's surface, a multispectral camera for studying soil composition, a surface structure analyzer with the ability to recognize more than 10 chemical elements, as well as a magnetic field detector and a meteorological instrument.
