In Beijing and other large cities of the PRC, more and more men began to make appointments with a plastic surgeon. Some of them – about 17% – are senior managers over 50. But many more potential patients are in a different category: these are young men aged 20-25 who want to change their appearance for a future career. They make up more than half of all people who apply, FranceInfo reports.
“In my entire life, I have undergone about 60 operations,” says 30-year-old Chinese actor and model Nai Wen. – This is not to say that I was ugly before, but the new appearance, clearer face shapes increased my chances of getting high-paying contracts with modeling agencies. If I hadn't changed my usual appearance, then there would not have been such a job.
The most common surgeries for Chinese men are eye bag removal, hair transplant, nose correction, facial resurfacing and dental surgery. But there are those who tighten the eyelids, enlarge the lips, make a new face contour.
“Over the past two years, the number of men undergoing plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures in China has increased,” says surgeon Wu Wenyang . – We no longer ask why they are doing this, because the answer is obvious – their chances of getting a prestigious job with a new look are increasing. For many, a new face helps them feel more confident.
The market for plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures in China is estimated at $ 70 billion annually. Plastic surgery is allowed only for adults (provided that it is not associated with birth defects or elimination of the consequences of injuries).
