Australia said a Chinese destroyer injured its divers in international waters.
Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles said a Chinese destroyer injured Australian Navy divers in international waters. The Australian government expressed serious concern to China about the incident.
He wrote about this on Twitter.
According to the Australian minister, the incident occurred in international waters, within Japan's exclusive economic zone.
According to Bloomberg, the Chinese destroyer ignored a request to stay away from the divers – they were just unraveling the nets around the propellers of the Australian fleet HMAS Toowoomba, which was conducting operations in the area in support of UN sanctions.
“The divers suffered minor injuries, likely due to being exposed to sonar pulses from the Chinese destroyer,” the Australian Defense Minister's office said.
The publication writes that the incident occurred at a time when relations between Australia and China have improved significantly over the past 18 months.
