China's Tianwen 1 probe makes a successful landing on Mars

On Saturday night, May 15, the Tianwen 1 unmanned spacecraft launched by China last year made a successful landing on Mars, Xinhua News Agency reported, citing the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

The message emphasizes that China has landed its space probe on another planet for the first time in its history. It is worth noting that the word “Tianwen” is translated into Russian as “questions to the sky.”

It is expected that after a while a six-wheeled Mars rover called “Chzhurong” (“God of Fire”) will separate from the orbiter, which will begin to study the surface of the Red Planet.

We will remind, as the website kp.ru wrote, the Chinese automatic interplanetary station (AMS) “Tianwen-1” was launched on July 23, 2020 from the Wenchang cosmodrome using a heavy launch vehicle “Changzheng-5”. The probe reached Mars orbit on February 10, 2021, after which it sent images of its surface to Earth.

It was reported that the landing is planned in the southern part of the Utopia lowland, and then, after checking all the systems, the rover will leave the platform and begin to study the Red Planet.
