One of the 15 richest people in the world suddenly disappeared without a trace after criticizing the Chinese government.
Jack Ma is the founder of the Chinese Amazon counterpart called “Alibaba”. This made him not only the richest man in China but also one of the 15 richest in the world. But now there is no trace of him.
Since the end of October, he has not given any more signs of life, as “Bild” reports. The 56-year-old was quietly replaced on the company's own show “Africa's Business Heroes”, although he wrote on Twitter shortly before that he was looking forward to the final.
Media quickly suspected a common practice of the Chinese government behind the sudden disappearance. Because at an autumn financial forum in Shanghai, the entrepreneur expressed severe criticism of the government: “The Chinese financial system has no system.”
President Xi Jinping then personally stopped Alibaba's upcoming IPO, which at USD 34.5 billion would have been the largest in history.
Only a few months earlier, the entrepreneur Ren Zhiqiang was sentenced to 18 years in prison after extensive corruption crimes suddenly came to light and were confessed in response to criticism of Xi's handling of the corona crisis.
