China's “attack” on US aircraft carrier was called a threat

The way the Chinese Air Force (Air Force) simulated an “attack” on a US aircraft carrier in Taiwan waters could be called a threat to Washington. Writes about this Financial Times with reference to American intelligence.

The newspaper notes that Beijing's development of missiles capable of striking American ships and aircraft in Taiwan could help “counter America's military dominance in Asia and the western Pacific.” This supposedly will force Washington to change its policy in the region.

Chinese bombers and fighters, which were deployed in the latest exercise, used a group of US Navy ships along with the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt as targets. The Financial Times believes that this data confirms “intense military rivalry between the two superpowers,” which also concerns the ownership of Taiwan.

According to sources, the incident occurred three days after the inauguration of President Joe Biden. It happened in the air defense zone. According to the Taiwan Ministry of Defense, Beijing sent 11 aircraft to the exercises on January 23, and January 15-24.

Beijing has not controlled Taiwan since 1949, when after losing the civil war, the Communists fled there and introduced the Kuomintang party. At the same time, the PRC continues to consider the island as its part. The United States, in turn, does not formally have diplomatic ties with Taiwan, but de facto maintains contacts with the island's administration.
