China unveiled its first wireless brain-computer interface that allows data to be transferred between chips and nerve cells. It is reported that it will cost half the price of foreign counterparts.
The chip was developed by a team of scientists from Fudan University. The device can be used in animals for the sake of experimentation.
The Chinese intend to release the chip to the market in September. It is argued that their development is superior to foreign counterparts. It is cheaper and weighs very little. Scientists say that the mass of the chip is one tenth of foreign devices. Therefore, the chip can be used in small mice. The device also consumes just three milliwatts of power and has a battery life of 12-24 hours. The chip can provide round-the-clock recording of neural signals.
