China warned Washington against politicizing sports. This statement was made by the official representative of the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zhao Lijian, commenting on the US call to boycott the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
“With regard to the so-called boycott of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, I would say that politicizing sports is contrary to the spirit of the Olympic Charter … The US Olympic Committee and the entire international community will not accept this,” the diplomat said, noting that such actions violate the interests of all participants Games, as well as the international Olympic movement.
Zhao Lijian added that Beijing will work with all stakeholders to ensure the successful hosting of the 2022 Olympics.
