Beijing understands and supports the proposals put forward by Moscow on the formation of security guarantees in Europe, transmitted by the United States and NATO. This is stated in a joint statement following the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, published on the Kremlin’s website.

According to the statement, China and Russia oppose the further expansion of NATO and urge the organization to abandon the ideologized approaches of the Cold War. The parties also call on the North Atlantic Alliance to respect the sovereignty, security and interests of other countries and to treat their peaceful development fairly.

“The parties are deeply concerned about serious challenges in the field of international security and proceed from the fact that the destinies of the peoples of all countries are interconnected,” the document says. It is noted that Russia and China oppose the policy of force, harassment, unilateral sanctions and the extraterritorial application of jurisdiction.

China and Russia have also opposed attempts by individual States to turn outer space into an arena of armed confrontation.

Putin and Xi Jinping held talks in Beijing. The heads of state positively assessed the relations between Beijing and Moscow. Putin noted that China and Russia continue to support each other. The Russian president is the first world leader with whom the head of the People’s Republic of China has met face to face since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
