One of the popular games of the Chinese company Tencent has an unexpected innovation: now underage players will play less, and the game will be automatically blocked when the time limit is reached. Tencent has already proposed extending this solution to the entire industry.
As it became known to the portal Gametech, the company announced such an initiative after numerous articles in major Chinese media. Publications called games “opium for the mind”, “electronic drugs” and “danger to the nation.” In addition, after that, Tencent's shares fell sharply in price.
So far, the restriction applies only to Tencent games, and specifically to one of them – Honor of Kings. Players who are not adults under Chinese law will not be able to play for more than 1 hour on regular days, and only 2 hours on holidays. There will also be new user conditions under which children under the age of 12 will not be able to make in-game purchases. It is also noted that each account will have its own identifier so that children cannot use adult accounts.
