China wants to increase its stockpile of nuclear warheads to 900 by 2035, preparing for an escalation from the United States over Taiwan.

This is reported by Kyodo News, citing Chinese sources .

Chinese President Xi Jinping has already approved a plan drawn up by the People's Liberation Army.

As some international relations experts warn, if Beijing succeeds in modernizing its military, it may relinquish its policy of “do not apply weapon first”.

“In November, the top leadership of the Chinese military reaffirmed the importance of lethal capability by analyzing that Russia's strong nuclear deterrence prevented a head-on collision between NATO and Moscow despite its aggression against Ukraine,” the article notes.

According to the information sources, China's number of nuclear warheads could rise to 550 in 2027. Then the country will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the armed forces. And by 2035, the number of Chinese nuclear warheads could reach 900.

There are also reports of growing fears that Taiwan could become a flashpoint of a military conflict in the Asia-Pacific region in the near future.

< p>Let's add, according to the estimates of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Russia has 5977 nuclear warheads, and the United States – 5428.

Recall that in January, the Taiwan authorities announced expectations that China will invade the island in 2027. As Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu explained, in 2027, Chinese leader Xi Jinping will run for a fourth term and, in order to divert the attention of the population from internal problems, he may arrange a war on the island.
