China officially defeats malaria
The WHO has issued a certificate to China that confirms that the country is free of malaria. This is stated in the message of the World Health Organization.
China has been working towards this document for 70 years. Back in the 1940s, the country's authorities reported 30 million cases of malaria every year.
The WHO Director-General noted that China has worked hard to achieve this status. By the way, over the past three decades, this country has become the first in the Western Pacific, free from malaria.
40 countries have a similar document. Recent holders of such a certificate include El Salvador, Argentina.
Earlier, drug-resistant malaria was identified in Africa. Malaria parasites have become more resistant to modern drugs due to mutation.
