China maintains flight ban for Boeing 737 MAX

Contrary to the re-approval in the USA, the Chinese supervisory authority has not yet had a schedule for this.

China is sticking to the flight ban for the Boeing 737 MAX despite the lifting in the USA. There is “no schedule” for the resumption of flights, the supervisory authority CAAC announced on Friday in Beijing, according to the television broadcaster CCTV.

The flight ban for the machine has been in effect since March 2019, worldwide. It was imposed after two machines of this type crashed in Indonesia and Ethiopia, killing a total of 346.

The US aviation authority FAA lifted its ban on Wednesday, but made it a condition that every airline must revise its training program for pilots of the 737 MAX before the machines start.

Investigators assume that the crashes were caused by a problem in a stabilization system that pushes the aircraft's nose down when a stall is imminent.

Other technical problems were also discovered, including electrical wiring. Boeing has now made technical changes, including revising the software for the stabilization system.

The Chinese supervisory authority said on Friday that the investigation into the two accidents had to be completed before the machine was allowed to fly again. Like the FAA, the CAAC also requires “complete” training for the pilots of the 737 MAX.
