On the night of May 14-15, the landing platform of the Tianwen-1 space mission, carrying the first Chinese Mars rover Chzhurong, successfully landed on the surface of Mars. It is reported by the Xinhua agency.

The new success of the Chinese space program is the first time when a device created in the Celestial Empire landed on the surface of another planet (before that, China had successfully tested a lunar rover). Thus, China became the third country in history that managed to land an automatic vehicle on Mars.

The Tianwen 1 mission, which means “questions to the heavens,” entered Mars orbit on February 10, 2021. The device “Chzhurong” (the name of the god of fire) has a mass of 240 kilograms and carries six scientific instruments:

GPR (Ground Penetration Radar), which can “see through” the Martian surface to a depth of 100 meters, Mars Surface Magnetic Field Detector (MSMFD), magnetic field detector, Mars Meteorological Measurement Instrument (MMMI), Martian weather station, Mars Surface Compound Detector (MSCD), spectrometer for studying the composition of the Martian soil, Multi-Spectrum Camera (MSC), multispectral camera, Navigation and Topography Camera (NTC), navigation and topographic camera.
