China has counted nearly 400 camps and prisons for Muslims

In the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, there are more than 380 facilities where, presumably, repressed representatives of Muslim peoples are being held. This was reported on the website of the Australian Institute for Strategic Policy.

The analysis produced the world's most comprehensive database of sites in Xinjiang. Among them were taken into account the so-called “re-education camps”, detention centers and prisons, which have been functioning since 2017 – there are almost 400 of them. The Australians used the analysis of satellite images and the reconstruction of objects in 3D format to compile the database.

It is noted that the study proves that the number of camps for Uighurs and other Muslims, which in China are called “retraining and advanced training centers”, is not decreasing at all, but, on the contrary, is increasing.

Earlier it was reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of calling the repression against Muslim Uyghurs in China the word “genocide”. It is noted that the question of the terms used is currently being discussed in the working groups of the State Department, the Ministry of Internal Security and the National Security Council. The option is also being considered that Washington may accuse Beijing of crimes against humanity or ethnic cleansing, which in any case will aggravate the already complicated relations between states.

Prior to that, a group of Uyghur immigrants wanted to conduct an investigation in the International Criminal Court (ICC) against the Chinese leadership, demanding recognition of genocide and crimes against humanity. In particular, we are talking about attempts to repatriate thousands of Uighurs to China from Cambodia and Tajikistan. The 80-page lawyers' statement lists more than 30 Chinese officials who the expatriates believe are responsible for the criminal campaign against Muslims. The list also includes the head of state Xi Jinping.
