Scientists from China have confirmed the effectiveness of the Russian drug Triazavirin against COVID-19. This was stated by the director of the Institute of Organic Synthesis of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valery Charushin, his words are quoted on the website of the Ural Federal University.
According to him, preliminary results of a study from Harbin Medical University showed that patients in ten hospitals in China who were given the drug had a shorter duration of illness and improved symptoms. Charushin clarified that the conclusions reached in China are still unofficial, since research is still ongoing.
Triazavirin went on sale in Russian pharmacies in 2014. According to the trade journal Vademecum, the drug is effective against 15 strains of the influenza virus.
On September 10, it became known that the Mariinsky Hospital in St. Petersburg announced a recruitment of volunteers to test the American vaccine against coronavirus from MSD (Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., USA). The study is scheduled for up to two years: after the drug is administered, participants will have to undergo six examinations. On the first day of the trial, volunteers will receive a vaccine or placebo.
