China condemns Japan's plans to dump water from Fukushima-1 into the ocean

Beijing called the Japanese authorities' decision to dump waste water from the damaged Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant into the ocean as extremely irresponsible. This is stated in a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xinhua news agency reported.

“The Japanese side, in the conditions when methods of safe disposal have not yet been exhausted, despite doubts and protests at home and abroad, decided to dispose of waste water from the damaged Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant by dumping,” it was reported. “These actions are extremely irresponsible,” the Chinese diplomats said.

According to representatives of the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the dump could cause harm to safety and international public health. In addition, it is likely to harm the interests of residents of neighboring states.

Earlier in Tokyo, they announced plans to dump water from the emergency nuclear power plant “Fukushima-1” into the ocean. This will only happen after thorough cleaning. Now the water used to cool the reactors is stored in special tanks on the territory of the nuclear power plant. They want to clear it of radioactive elements by 2023. If their level is below world standards, water will be dumped into the ocean.
