The Chinese delegation to the European Union (EU) opposed the expansion of NATO and called it useless for the efforts that are allegedly being undertaken to ensure global security. This is stated in the statement of the department, reports TASS.
“NATO expansion will not help ensure security and stability in the world,” the Chinese mission said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, following talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, said that Moscow was categorically against NATO’s expansion to the east. In such circumstances, he pointed out the illogicality of the West’s statements about Russia’s “aggressive” actions. Putin explained that the expansion of NATO in the east poses a threat to Russia. This will mean “further expansion of NATO” to the Russian borders.
In early February, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, said that NATO’s expansion to the east is a “great success story.” According to him, this contributed to the spread of freedom and democracy in Europe.
