The Chinese Foreign Ministry accused the United States of having a serious negative impact on the global strategic balance and stability, as well as on the international arms control and disarmament process. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the PRC Foreign Ministry.

Commenting on Russia's withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty (ONG), the Chinese Foreign Ministry pointed out that Washington unilaterally denounced the agreement, “despite the fears of other parties to the treaty and the international community,” which was the reason for Moscow's withdrawal from it. The department also drew attention to the fact that Russia made attempts to save the treaty, but did not receive a response from the United States and other parties.

The ministry emphasized that the United States “adhered to the mentality of the Cold War, was guided by the idea of America first, continuously violated treaties and withdrew from them, freely increased its military power, exaggerated the confrontation and competition of large states, had a serious negative impact on the global strategic balance and stability, mutual trust and cooperation between major powers, as well as the process of international arms control and disarmament. “

The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on the United States to “pay due attention to the concerns of the international community, stop the above negative actions and take concrete actions to maintain global strategic stability, as well as international and regional peace and security.”

Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called on NATO to abandon the ideological prejudices and mentality of the Cold War and do more for the sake of international and regional security, as well as make more efforts to maintain international and regional security and stability.

On December 18, Russia officially withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty, suspending the fulfillment of its obligations under this agreement. The Russian side has already sent a notification to the depositories of the treaty – Hungary and Canada – and other participating states. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on the country's withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty on June 7. The document was a response to the US withdrawal from DON in November 2020.

The Russian Foreign Ministry, commenting on Moscow's withdrawal from the agreement, pointed out that all Russia's efforts did not allow preserving the Open Skies Treaty in the form it was intended by its authors, and the responsibility for the degradation of the treaty regime lies with the initiator of its collapse – the United States.
