China supported President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko after the inauguration held behind closed doors. A corresponding statement was made by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Wang Wenbin, RIA Novosti reported.

“China respects the choice made by the people of Belarus, the presidential election is an internal affair of the country,” the agency quotes the text of its statement.

Wenbin also stressed that the Chinese state supports the Belarusian authorities in their efforts to protect sovereignty and “opposes external forces to create a split and unrest in the Belarusian society.”

Earlier on September 24, it became known that the EU denies Lukashenko's legitimacy. Prior to that, the United States announced its refusal to recognize him as the legitimate head of state.

On September 23, it was reported that Lukashenko secretly assumed the presidency. The ceremony took place in the Palace of Independence in secrecy. Media staff and members of the public were not notified of the event. Lukashenka called the day of the inauguration the day of “convincing and fateful” victory. Against this background, protests were held in different cities of Belarus, more than 250 people were detained.

Mass protests have been going on in Belarus for the second month. Their participants demand the resignation of Lukashenka, the holding of new elections and the punishment of the security officials responsible for the brutal dispersal of demonstrators. The authorities believe that elements of external interference are visible in the situation.

According to Lukashenka, the protesters are trying to act “according to the manuals of color revolutions,” and they are being controlled from Poland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Ukraine. The opposition is accused of attempting a coup d'etat.
