Chief US infectious disease specialist Anthony Fauci spoke about his reaction to President Donald Trump's infection with the coronavirus. He is quoted by Axios.
Fauci said that he was not at all surprised by the news of the American leader's illness. He explained this by observing Trump in places of crowds of people without a mask: the risk of infection in this case is high. The doctor recalled that wearing protective equipment can really protect you from infection.
“I think deep down the president still believes in science. If he didn’t believe, he would not have gone to the most competent specialists at the Walter Reed Hospital, ”admitted the infectious disease specialist.
The current head of state and his wife Melania Trump contracted the coronavirus on October 2. The American leader was treated at the Walter Reed Military Hospital. A few days later, antibodies to the infection were found in his blood and he was discharged from the hospital. Trump later said that he was not diagnosed with pneumonia during hospitalization due to infection with the coronavirus. At the same time, the head of state noted that he felt unwell and had a fever, and doctors warned him about “slightly infected lungs.”
