Chief Rabbi of Russia urged Lavrov to apologize for saying that “Hitler had Jewish blood”

Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar called on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to apologize for saying that “Hitler had Jewish blood”.

He added that such statements by the diplomat of the aggressor state are inappropriate.

He said this in a comment to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

“I do not think that I can give advice to the head of Russian diplomacy, but it would be nice if he apologized to the Jews and simply admitted his mistake. I think that then it would be possible to consider the incident resolved and flip the page, “Lazar said.

Recall, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the Jews “the most bitter anti-Semites.” Traditionally, he repeated the Kremlin propaganda that the Nazis were operating in Ukraine and stated that Adolf Hitler was of Jewish origin.

“What kind of Naziification can there be if he (Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky) is a Jew? I may be wrong, but “Adolf Hitler also had Jewish blood. It doesn't mean anything at all. The wise Jewish people say that the most bitter anti-Semites are usually Jews,” Lavrov said.

This statement of the politician caused a diplomatic scandal not only in Ukraine, but and in Israel. In turn, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the “anti-Semitic attacks” of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov towards the President of Ukraine and the Jews “absolutely unacceptable”.

Also, the official representative of the government Germany Steffen Hebestreit called Lavrov's statements when he called the Jews “the most bitter anti-Semites” and compared Zelensky with Hitler “absurd”.
