There were a few corona cases at the World Cup in Sochi. Levon Aronjan from Armenia was particularly unlucky.
The world number two Fabiano Caruana had to go into quarantine at the Chess World Cup in Sochi. During the second round, the American was declared the winner after it was found that his opponent Susanto Megaranto had tested positive for the coronavirus before the game.
Two other Indonesians also tested positive. Caruana is allowed to compete in the third round on Sunday if he has tested negative twice beforehand.

Another favorite, on the other hand, was eliminated without having played a single move. Levon Aronjan was found to have a fever. Although it could be traced back to an inflammation of the tonsils, the Armenian competing for the USA was not allowed into the tournament hall.
