Chernihiv is on the verge of survival, the outskirts of the city have been bombed – Denisova

The outskirts of Chernigov have been completely bombed by the Russian troops, and the suburbs – by 60%. Half of the population left the city, and out of about 130,000 who remained, many were sick and infirm. This was announced by the Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova.

There is no electricity and no water in Chernihiv. There is almost no snow left, there is nothing to heat water from, there are not enough source reserves. It is also impossible to ensure the logistics of supplies due to constant shelling.

She noted that at the moment water is pumped using generators. Then it is delivered to different microdistricts of the city.

“Vodokanal workers heroically work under shelling, delivering water to city microdistricts and critical infrastructure facilities, these are hospitals, thermal power plants and more. To increase the supply of water, the city needs additional tanks, Denisova informed.

There is no electricity in the whole city, and gas is very selective. It is impossible to repair all this because of the constant shelling. Most of the remaining Chernihiv residents have adapted to cooking on fires in their yards under constant shelling.

Due to the critical destruction of the infrastructure for the repair of electricity and heating networks, the city needs spare parts, tools, kits for the operation and repair of equipment.

— Exits from Chernigov towards Kyiv are mined. Who dares to leave – “forest paths”. They are still struggling to deliver humanitarian aid. After warming outside, these trails will blur. The city will remain in absolute blockade,” the Ombudswoman said.

The torture of civilians by Russian militants is nothing but genocide of the Ukrainian people in accordance with the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The actions of the Russians to destroy peaceful cities are a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949, regarding the protection of victims of international armed conflicts.

She appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross to take all possible measures to open safe humanitarian centers on the territory of Ukraine corridors for the evacuation of the civilian population from areas of active hostilities and occupation. She also asked NATO member countries to close the sky over Ukraine.
