In Bukovina, a man was convicted of a crime that he committed 13 years ago. As a 22-year-old boy, he raped and killed a 65-year-old woman.
On Wednesday, December 29, the appellate court overturned the acquittal in this case. For the cruel massacre of a pensioner the man will spend the next 15 years in prison.
Case history
According to the case file, the incident took place in April 2008 in the village of Lomachintsy Dnestrovsky district.
The 22-year-old, who recently returned from work, had an alcoholic feast with relatives and friends.
After that, when night fell, he decided to visit the 65-year-old pensioner. The investigation proved that the guy pursued the goal of to have sex with her.
The attacker pushed the frightened woman into the barn: there he punched her in the face, stripped, raped and cut her throat with a knife.
The murdered pensioner was found half-naked, without underwear. The medical examiner found broken ribs, bruises and stab wounds on her body – they were all inflicted in vivo.
The fate of the killer
It turned out that after three days after the cold-blooded murder of a 22-year-old boy left Ukraine. During this time he arranged his personal life, got married and carried away the children.
The man was detained only in the fall of 2019: his involvement in the murder of a pensioner was confirmed by a molecular genetic analysis of DNA.
Criminal proceedings were opened under part 4 of article 152 (Rape, which entailed especially grave consequences) and paragraph 10 of part 2 Article 115 (Intentional murder combined with rape) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
At the trial, the man stated that he had had sexual intercourse with the deceased since the age of 14. Considering the difference over 40 years and some other data of the investigation, the court found these words untrue.
