Chemists from Moscow State University have taught photodetectors to respond well to sunlight

Employees of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Fine Organic Synthesis, Faculty of Chemistry, Moscow State University, together with scientists from the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Electrodynamics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the University of Antwerp in Belgium, have developed materials for photodetectors that react to solar radiation. This was reported by the press service of Moscow State University.

Unique dyes increase the efficiency of photosensitive layers and increase the speed of detectors by 20 times, while the production of materials turns out to be cheaper in comparison with inorganic analogues. The work was published in the New Journal of Chemistry.

The developed materials in the future can be used in the “Smart House” system. The photo detector will give a signal if the lighting in the house changes, and send a signal to the system to turn on or off the artificial light.

Earlier it was reported that Moscow State University scientists have figured out how to improve silicon microcircuits. The authors of the development proposed to reduce heat generation by replacing part of the metal contacts with optical connections between the components. To solve the problem of insufficient interaction of silicon with light, the researchers used germanium nanodots – a special layer that increases radiation.

According to scientists, the new method may be promising for creating optoelectronic integrated circuits in the future.

In addition, in August, employees of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Moscow State University received a patent for a method for creating a computing complex that will allow the use of computing resources for interdisciplinary research.
