Champions League major reform predicted

The Champions League could be expanded to 36 teams from the 2024/25 season. Reported by The Telegraph.

The source of the publication predicted a large-scale reform of the tournament. According to The Telegraph, the Champions League leadership is considering restructuring the group stage. According to one of the options, 36 teams will be divided into six groups, in which ten meetings will be held.

Another option assumes that the groups will play the same number of matches as now. At the same time, opponents will be selected according to the “Swiss system”, which is typical for chess and other intellectual games.

The essence of this system for holding sports tournaments is that participants are selected so that only relatively equal rivals meet with each other, which, as a result, allows a small number of matches to be played to determine the winner.

At the moment, 32 teams are taking part in the main round of the Champions League.

Previously, Ace Football conducted research and named the most overrated football player in sports history. The most overrated was former Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard. 23.5 percent of respondents named it. In second place is the French midfielder “Manchester United” Paul Pogba (22 percent). Pele, a three-time world champion with the Brazilian national team, finished third (20 percent).
