Chain reaction: which countries, after Biden's statement, urged their citizens to leave Ukraine

The Foreign Ministries of these countries directly warn their citizens about the threat to Russia and Belarus.

The Foreign Offices of Great Britain, Israel, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway and Latvia called on their citizens to leave Ukraine. Before that, such calls were made by Japan, South Korea and US President Joe Biden himself.

Foreign ministries published their messages on official websites.

The Office for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development today (Friday 11 February) updated its travel advice to Ukraine and now advises British citizens not to travel to Ukraine.

Israel is also evacuating the families of its diplomats.

“In connection with the aggravation of the situation in Ukraine, the Israeli Foreign Ministry recommends that Israeli citizens in Ukraine reconsider the need to stay in the country and avoid approaching high-risk areas . The Foreign Ministry recommends that Israeli citizens refrain from traveling to Ukraine … Following the publication of a warning regarding travel to Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry Israel has decided to evacuate the families of Israeli diplomats,” the Israeli embassy in Ukraine said.

“Due to growing tensions and an unpredictable security situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs Montenegrin citizens living in Ukraine about considering the possibility of temporary departure from the territory of this country,” the Montenegrin Foreign Ministry said in response to the call to constantly contact the country's embassy in Ukraine.

In the Netherlands, its citizens were informed that in connection with the buildup of Russian troops on the borders of the Russian Federation and Belarus with Ukraine, tension is increasing and the situation there is dangerous.

“The color code for Ukraine is orange and red. This is due to rising tensions with Russia and uncertainty about this. Due to this uncertainty, it is recommended to postpone any travel. If you are in Ukraine, consider whether you really still need to stay there,” the statement said.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs , due to the serious and unpredictable security situation, recommends its citizens not to travel to Ukraine and urges them to leave the country.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also recommends not to travel or stay in Russia closer than 250 km from the Ukrainian border. The reason for this is the tense security situation and a significant build-up of forces. For the same reason, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also recommends not to travel throughout Belarus, except for the capital Minsk. The changes to the travel advisory will take effect immediately,” the Norwegian Foreign Ministry said.

“Given the serious security threat posed by Russia on the borders of Ukraine, and the likely threat of an aggravation of the situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on Latvian citizens to leave Ukraine as soon as possible,” the Latvian Foreign Ministry said.

They recommended to return home to use any of the available safe modes of transport – by air or land route to or through EU/NATO member countries.

Recall, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Russia could invade Ukraine at any time, even during the Winter Olympics.

On February 11, US President Joe Biden urged Americans to leave Ukraine immediately. He added that the US military will not be sent to the zone of the alleged conflict.
