The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Ukraine asked the authorities of the DPR and LPR to assess the possibility of holding elections in Donbass. This is stated on the website of the Ukrainian department.

“The Central Election Commission appealed to the Donetsk and Lugansk regional state administrations – regional civil-military administrations for conclusions about the possibility of organizing the preparation and holding of the first local elections on March 27, 2022 in individual territorial communities of these regions,” the CEC said.

The press service of the Central Election Commission said that in Donetsk and Lugansk “there is a threat to the safety of voters, other subjects and participants in the electoral process, as well as to the proper organization of the preparation and conduct of elections in compliance with the requirements of the Code”, since in these areas “there is a Joint Forces operation on ensuring national security and defense, repelling and deterring the armed aggression of the Russian Federation ”.

It is noted that in such a situation, the commission can make a decision on the possibility or impossibility of holding elections on the basis of the relevant conclusions of the regional civil-military administrations.

“The CEC expects appropriate conclusions from the Donetsk and Lugansk Regional State Administrations-CAA no later than January 13, 2022,” the commission added.

Earlier, the CEC of Ukraine twice appealed to the authorities of Donetsk and Luhansk regions regarding the possibility of holding local elections, but then it was decided not to vote for security reasons.

Earlier, the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine imposed sanctions against 237 people who took part in organizing elections to the Russian State Duma in Crimea and Donbass. According to the adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Arestovich, such measures will take effect after the region returns under the control of the Ukrainian authorities.
