German Chancellor Olaf Scholz insists that the rights and safety of the population < strong>Karabakhmust be guaranteed. And this is “now the responsibility of Azerbaijan.”

He said this in a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, DW reports.

According to Scholz, “acute humanitarian assistance to people in places” is the focus of attention in this situation.

The Chancellor notes that humanitarian assistance should be provided through the Lachin corridor connecting the region with Armenia. It should be noted that Azerbaijan blocked this corridor for several months before launching an “anti-terrorist operation” in the region.

The German politician notes that he rejects the use of military force. His government, Scholz emphasized, “is determined to resolve the conflict through negotiations and achieve lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”

“For a sustainable settlement of the conflict, it is necessary to guarantee the rights and security of the population in Karabakh,” he separately stated in a statement, Scholz's representative Steffen Gebestreit.

As reported, after the ceasefire in Karabakh, the European Union gave a warning to Azerbaijan. The EU warned Baku and threatened measures if the situation worsens, and also calls for a resumption negotiations with Yerevan.
