The creators of Cyberpunk 2077 were unable to release another patch for the game due to a cyber attack. This was reported on Twitter by CD Projekt Red.
Representatives of the Polish studio said that they really wanted to release patch 1.2 for the new title, but due to an attack on the company's servers, fixing errors in the game had to be postponed. In this regard, CD Projekt Red is postponing the release of the patch until the second half of March. “We are working on numerous quality improvements and fixes, and it is not yet complete,” the statement said.
Many gamers in the comments below the post were skeptical about the company's message. In particular, the user under the nickname Bobroff_on wrote that he did not see the connection between the cyber attack and the delay of the patch, to which the representatives of CD Projekt Red replied that the prompt release of the fix was impossible, because “everything went smoothly”.
Insiders who contacted Bloomberg confirmed the problems of the video game developer, noting that hacking had become a “nightmare” for the studio. According to reports, the attackers likely gained access to the personal data of employees, due to which the management of CD Projekt Red ordered the employees to block their accounts and give their computers to the IT staff for verification.
Some of the studio staff, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that the company refused to pay the ransom to the hackers. Many specialists still cannot get down to their work, as the hack paralyzed many important systems and development tools.
Earlier, netizens reported that the source code of the games stolen from CD Projekt Red was sold at an auction. The Polish game developer announced the breach of the company's internal networks on February 9. Unknown attackers, in particular, downloaded the source code of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, and demanded a ransom.
