A conference on Ukraine's reconstruction has begun in Rome. During the event, the Ukrainian president called on partners to develop a plan similar to the “Marshall Plan.”
This was reported by 24 Channel with reference to a statement by Volodymyr Zelensky during the plenary session of the official opening of the Conference on Ukraine Restoration URC 2025.
Ukraine needs its own “Marshall Plan”
Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Ukraine’s recovery requires a systematic approach, a coalition with clear leadership of countries, companies that can lead and bring others along with them, and a clear plan.
He recalled the Marshall Plan, which helped in the reconstruction and transformation of Europe.
That is why Europe has enjoyed peace and economic growth for so many decades. And now we have a real opportunity to start a new wave of progress. We need a Marshall Plan-style approach, and we must develop it together, Zelensky stressed.
In addition, the Ukrainian president appealed to partners to stop Russian drones and missiles. According to him, investments in interceptor drones, air defense systems and missiles for them will help with this.
“I call on all our partners to increase their investments. While Russia is increasing its attacks on Ukraine, we cannot have a shortage of funding for the production of drones,” the president noted.
What is the Marshall Plan?
The Marshall Plan is a model of economic aid to European countries in the post-war period. The plan got its name from the initiator, US Secretary of State George Marshall. The program was implemented from 1948 to 1952. Thanks to it, America transferred about 13 billion dollars in aid to European countries.
It should be noted that on the eve of the conference, Trump's special representative Keith Kellogg also stated that Ukraine needs a new “Marshall Plan”. However, first of all, in his opinion, a ceasefire must be achieved.
