Catches on the fly. An air defense system has been created in Russia to combat ballistic missiles
Shown in Russia is the world's first specialized anti-aircraft missile system (K 98P6E “Abakan”) of non-strategic missile defense to defeat modern and advanced ballistic missiles. Abakan is the world's first specialized anti-aircraft missile system designed exclusively for combating high-speed high-altitude targets with ballistic trajectories. Before that, no one in the world had created such narrowly focused systems, as a rule, all modern complexes are multifunctional. A characteristic feature of the “Abakan” is the fact that the rocket launches vertically upward, there is no need to deploy it towards the enemy. This gives a margin of time, which means a lot in the work of missile defense.
According to the developer, the complex is an effective means of destruction of modern and promising, including hypersonic, non-strategic ballistic missiles of medium and short range. It is planned to be used in the defense of important military-industrial and administrative facilities. “Abakan” can be integrated into the air and missile defense system of any country. It can also be used as an additional missile defense module, which expands the capabilities of the air defense-missile defense grouping to repel massive attacks by ballistic missiles. Due to the high mobility of the complex, it can be quickly transferred and focused on the most missile-hazardous areas.
In fact, “Abakan” is a development of the S-300V4 system. This complex consists of a unified multifunctional reconnaissance and targeting radar for missile guidance and up to four 51P6E2 launchers with 9M82MDE long-range anti-aircraft missiles. It is sometimes referred to as a “heavy” rocket. If there are several Abakan air defense systems in the grouping, they can be brought under the control of a single command post.
The minimum number of people and vehicles to work with the new complex is its indisputable advantage, and significantly increases its mobility. For the American air defense system “Patriot” people and transport are required 10 times more. In addition, 6 minutes are enough for deployment and folding, which allows you to quickly get out of enemy fire.
SAM “Abakan” can be used with high efficiency in conditions of intense electronic and fire countermeasures, in any weather and climatic conditions, at any time of the day. Its radars see targets with a very small reflective surface – about 0.01 square meters. According to the manufacturers, the air defense missile system detects and destroys ballistic missiles with a launch range of up to 2500 km. The maximum range of destruction of operational-tactical missiles flying targets speed – up to 4000 m / s, is 30 km, at altitudes up to 25 km. The complex can simultaneously track up to 8 targets and fire each simultaneously with two missiles.
Plans for the timing of the transfer of the air defense system to the armament of the Russian army have not yet been made public. The complex is offered for supplies to foreign buyers, documents for “Abakan” – an advertising passport and an export passport – are already ready. Its export version is called Antey-2500, and it can be assumed that it will be of interest not only to such traditional buyers of Russian weapons as Algeria, Egypt and India, but also may lay claim to a new market for the Russian defense industry. In particular, it will come in handy for Saudi Arabia, where there is a constant threat of rocket attacks.
