The number of flood victims has more than doubled in two weeks. Rainfall continues to increase, especially in the coastal region and the capital Dar es Salaami.

In addition, roads, bridges and railways have been destroyed due to the rains. Flooded schools were closed while emergency services rescued people stranded by the floods.

Prime Minister Majaliwa called on residents of low-lying areas to move to higher ground and district officials to provide food to residents of affected houses.

More than 51 thousand households were affected by the rains. Bad weather is also “seething” in Burundi and Kenya, neighboring Tanzania.

Recall that the rain in the Emirates caused trouble. By the evening of April 16, the annual norm of precipitation had fallen – more than 120 mm. The city streets literally went under water.

Due to bad weather, the international airport in Dubai and educational institutions in the UAE were closed, government employees mostly worked remotely, and police and ambulances were on duty on flooded highways. Water flooded some houses, authorities sent tankers to the streets and highways to pump out the water.

In neighboring Oman, heavy rains over the past few days have left at least 18 people dead.
