The Catalan government is imposing a curfew in the region from December 24 amid rising coronavirus infections. Reported by El Pais.

According to the publication, the High Court of Catalonia has approved new measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, adopted by the government of the Generalitat. At the same time, the prosecutor's office opposed the decision of the authorities.

As part of the new restrictions, the municipalities of Catalonia with a population of more than one hundred thousand people will be subject to a curfew from 1 am to 6 am. In addition, the authorities are also introducing a ban on gathering by companies of more than ten people. It is noted that the epidemiological measures will be in effect for two weeks, later they can be extended.

Earlier, the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin reported that the first death from the omicron strain of coronavirus was registered in Germany. According to the institute, the deceased patient was about 60 years old. Prior to this, Bloomberg wrote that European countries will introduce additional restrictive measures to combat the increase in the incidence.
