Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen lost to Uzbekistani Nodirbek Abdusattorov at the World Rapid Championship. RIA Novosti reports.
On the third day of competition, Carlsen, who played white, lost to 17-year-old Abdusattorov. The Norwegian lost his leadership in the rapid chess championship standings.
After ten games, an Uzbek chess player with eight points is in the lead. He shares first place with Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi. Previously, Carlsen topped the standings.
The world rapid champion will be determined on December 28, when all 13 rounds are over. The tournament takes place in Warsaw.
The Norwegian grandmaster has held the title of world classical chess champion since 2013. In the fight for the world chess crown in 2021, Carlsen defeated Nepomniachtchi with a score of 7.5: 3.5. Also Carlsen became the world rapid champion four times.
